High Dynamic Flagpoles?

February 14, 2011 Leave a comment

I am going to use the excuse again….” its too cold to go outside and take some photos!” But today, it actually is…..MINUS 27 this morning, my car actually shouted “NO BLOODY WAY” when i tried to start it! It got a little warmer in the afternoon, but only by 6 degrees! But its a damn shame, as its so beautiful outside, there’s a photo opportunity around every corner….but me for one would rather keep my fingers! So i thought id process another HDR shot, as i need practice with it. These are the flagpoles outside my work place. Its was cold on this day too, but around minus 12 i think, which is sumwhat manageable with the right attire…..Thrown a little vignette in there and a little sharpening too….

High Dynamic Cookie

More cookies!…This time in HDR. Im not the biggest user of hdr and im not really too confident in doing it. This is merged and processed in Photoshop, used from 5 exposures at +1. Love the final image to be honest, just the right amount of processing for my taste.

‘Finger in the Cookie Jar’

February 13, 2011 Leave a comment

Cookies. Home made Cookies. There is nothing better. Especially these ones. Pecan nut and Milk chocolate cookies. These bad boys helped me gain 5kg over the Christmas holidays! But, they are my wife’s speciality….im just lucky that they taste so bloody good so I dont mind scoffing the whole batch the day they are made!….. Its cold outside today….AGAIN….around minus 20 something, and wont change for a long time! So i decided to take some pictures by the window in the morning sun of stuff i had lying around….and the cookies were just staring at me, not anymore mind as after the morning session, i ate the damn lot! Took this using my Nikon nifty 50, which is PERMANENTLY attached to my camera now. 1 / 30 of a second and at iso 100. However, this was such a simple shot when taken, just your every day picture. But its the shot that I’ve used Photoshop the most with. Finally figured out how to use the Burn tools and I think its been used pretty well here!….But, Sunday night tonight, which usually means movie night……” Wife, we need more cookies”……

I was very lucky to get this….Its from the drive way to where i work, its quite a magical place, i will post up images every time i get a good one from there, but if your interested go to to check it out. I had taken my last shot and was walking back to get out of the cold, was around minus 15 that night! Then i remembered something i had read a million times, “always look back” So thats what i did, and was greeted with this. Fantastic! set up the tripod, Manual mode at 20 seconds and blam! A tiny bit of cropping and what not in photoshop and here it is. It lets your imagination run wild, wondering, when the sun comes up, what the hell else is there surrounding this!?!?!…..

Pedestrian Crossing

February 11, 2011 1 comment

I’m Extremely happy with this capture!…Was a 30 second exposure, at f 16. I have a soft spot for the traffic signs in this country! They are so bold and modern. So i had an idea of going to the bottom of the street, and taking a photo of one. Which, turned out to be photographs of many…. I will post more from the set but i thought that this HAD to be the first one…. I call it “Pedestrian Crossing”, for obvious reasons…but a friend via Facebook made me chuckle with a new title, ” Giant Man Walking On Giant Piano” just like the Tom Hanks movie Big.

Perfect Girl, Perfect World

February 11, 2011 Leave a comment

I think it’s pretty fair to say I’m living in a perfect world at the moment. I have my girl, Lilya May 6 months. She is a beaut and is so photogenic it would be wrong to not get the camera out at every opportunity! It’s with her help, I am now confident in using my new 50mm 1.8f lens and have found the “sweet spot” at f 2.2. As seen here.
